Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Sarayu mobile app and the website at sarayuai.com. By using Sarayu, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Acceptance

By installing, signing in to, or otherwise using Sarayu, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If we update the Terms, we will notify you by email or with an in-app banner for material changes, and your continued use after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Eligibility

Sarayu is for adults 18 years or older. You will be asked to provide your date of birth at sign-up; we calculate your age from that date and refuse accounts for anyone under 18. If your local law requires a higher minimum age for digital service consent, that higher age applies to you.

By creating an account, you confirm that the information you provide is true and that you meet the eligibility requirements.

3. What Sarayu is

Sarayu is an AI companion app. You can have voice or text conversations with one of two AI companions — Sarayu or Arnav. The companions remember context across conversations and respond in a warm, attentive register.

Sarayu is provided to you on the basis described in these Terms. We may add, change, or remove features over time. We will give reasonable advance notice for changes that materially reduce functionality you have paid for.

4. Your account

• Authentication is via email and a one-time code, handled by our authentication provider Clerk.
• You are responsible for keeping your email account secure. Tell us at support@sarayuai.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
• You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy & Data. See our Privacy Policy for retention details.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Sarayu for any illegal purpose, or to harm, harass, or threaten any person.
• Attempt to bypass safety filters, extract harmful content, or coerce the companions into generating illegal or harmful material.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or attempt to derive the source code of the Sarayu app or its underlying systems.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, load generators) against the service without our written permission.
• Create multiple accounts to evade rate limits, bans, or quota restrictions.
• Impersonate others, or use the companions to impersonate real people for any purpose.
• Upload content that infringes third-party rights, contains malware, or violates applicable law.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially or repeatedly violate these rules.

6. AI limitations and important disclaimers

Sarayu generates responses using large-language-model AI. Responses can be inaccurate, out-of-date, biased, or otherwise unexpected. You should not rely on Sarayu as a source of facts, decisions, or professional advice.

Sarayu is not a substitute for professional advice — including therapy, medical, legal, financial, or any other regulated domain. If you need professional help, please consult a qualified professional. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of self-harm, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis-support hotline. The decisions you make based on Sarayu's responses are yours and we are not responsible for their outcomes.

We do not warrant that Sarayu will be available continuously, uninterrupted, or error-free. We may schedule maintenance or experience outages from time to time.

7. Your content

The conversations you have with the companions, and any photos or other content you share, remain yours. By using the service, you grant Sarayu a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process this content solely to provide the service to you (for example, to generate companion responses, remember context, and route voice through the speech pipeline). We do not claim ownership of your content, do not sell it, and do not use it to train AI models.

You may erase your full conversation history and account from Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete my account. See Privacy Policy §6 for retention details after erasure.

8. Subscriptions and payments

• Sarayu offers a free tier with usage limits, plus paid subscription tiers (currently Lite, Pro, and Premium). Pricing is shown in the app at the time of purchase.
• Subscriptions are processed by Razorpay, billed in Indian Rupees (INR), and renew automatically each month until you cancel.
• You may cancel at any time from Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep access until then.
• Voice packs are one-time purchases of additional voice minutes. They are non-refundable once used.
• Subscription fees paid in advance for the current period are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If a renewal payment fails, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
• We may adjust pricing for future billing periods; we will give you reasonable advance notice and you may cancel before the change takes effect.

9. Intellectual property

The Sarayu name, logos, the AI companion characters Sarayu and Arnav, their portraits and voice signatures, the app code, the website, and the underlying technology are owned by us or licensed to us. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or use any of these for commercial purposes without our written permission.

10. Termination

You may stop using Sarayu at any time. To erase your account and data, use Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete my account.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially or repeatedly violate these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you would create undue risk. Where possible, we will tell you the reason. If we terminate your account through no fault of yours, we will refund any unused prepaid subscription period on a pro-rata basis.

11. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, only the exclusions that are lawful apply to you, and other warranties remain in effect to the extent required.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to Sarayu is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) ₹2,000 INR.

We will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct in jurisdictions where such limitations are not permitted).

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Sarayu harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the service, or your violation of any third-party rights or applicable law.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms will be resolved by arbitration in Hyderabad, Telangana, India under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat of arbitration is Hyderabad, the proceedings will be in English, and the arbitrator's decision is final and binding.

Nothing in this section deprives you of any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you under the law of the country where you live.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will notify you by email or with an in-app banner at least 14 days before the new Terms take effect. If you do not agree to the change, you may stop using Sarayu and delete your account before the effective date.
